Velocity and Arm Care Clinic with Coach Schultz Starts 11/19! 〰️
What it is?
This program will look to help players reach their full potential through maximizing movement efficiency. We will use a combination of drills and skill specific strengthening to accomplish this.
How it works?
Come in at your chosen time between class operating time.
EX: Class 6 to 8. You come in at 6:20 and are able to work through your entire routine for the day, you may leave at 7:00 to 7:15. I may leave at 8. This program is completely personal with a structure. You are working at your own pace within the group. Coach Kevin is floating around helping every single guy. Coach Kevin may alter drills mid class for different kids to try to maximize the moves. Class size is limited to 10 for a specific reason. Class ends at 8 due to facility scheduling 10 min overage may happen but guys will not show up at 7:30 expecting to do 2 hours of work. They can get in what they can, but class will end at the end time (within 10 minutes) or early if you finish your day. Program is personally adjusted for players schedules. There is an overall plan for 4 months of work to build into Spring season. If a player has a showcase or an event, they will be attending they are encouraged to talk with Coach Kevin so he can personalize their training calendar to maximize at those dates.
Daily Routine
1. Body temp warm up – 5 minutes
The body takes 3 to 5 minutes to get up to temperature to respond to stretching and/or stress. We will use jump rope, agility ladder, or the bike to accomplish this.
2. Dynamic warm up – Class wide routine
Our dynamic warm up will look to work the body through a ride range of motions prepping it for the upcoming activities. Warm up takes 5 to 10 minutes.
3. Activation Drills – Personal / Class wide routine
Activation drills are drills to enhance mobility and muscle function on those ranges of motion they can lead to enhanced force production creating more effective and efficient mechanics.
4. Water bag conditioning / activation drills – personalized drills
We will use water bags for each session. We will use them in a variety of ways. They will help with stabilization, core strength, mechanical feels, and conditioning.
5. Resistance band / 2lb shoulder routine
Players will do a rotator cuff, accelerator prep, deceleration activation routine that they can take to the field for their own use.
6. Plyo care ball routine – personalized drills
Plyo care ball routines have been shown to increase arm path efficiency, ranges of motion, and joint stability. Age, weight and intensity are all determining factors on what weight of balls to use and when.
7. What kind of day is it – Personalized
This is where we get super personalized with our program. Each player will be working his own timeline and day of his throwing calendar. Examples of types of days it would be, Velo day
Velo day – Velo days are about intensity and will focus on rate of force creation and velocity drills will be on the radar gun players will range up to 85 percent mid-way through the program and up to 100 percent as we progress towards the season. Different types of drills will be used that will help focus on creating more energy through the movement.
Mechanics day – Mechanics Day will take an everyday focus on movement efficiency and magnify it. Coach Kevin will be doing on the go video analysis of each drill done that day and players will work a lot on their gameday delivery and other aspects of their delivery that are off. This day is about patience and not rushing anything. We may spend large amounts of time on one drill or mixing and matching searching for a feel. Expect one mechanics driven day per week especially in the beginning of the program.
Day off – Just how it sounds at this point in your day you would move on to your cool down and exit the building. Hanging around until class end time is fine. The more each player is around the drills and work the better his understanding will be.
Pitch creation day – During this day we will work on new pitches working specific pitches and sequences. We will use a combination of drill work and bullpen work to a catcher during this.
No throwing days – During these days we will not throw any live baseballs we will use med balls to work drills. Workload will be similar to a throwing day but stress on the soft tissue of the arm will be less throwing the med balls.
Live – As we approach the end of the program we will take live at bats vs others in the group on Hittraxx this alone will give the entire group a tremendous head start on the rest of their competition.
8. Cool down – Cool down consists of certain band tubing drills, iso metrics drills for increases blood flow, personalized mobility drills.
This program is compromised of Coach Kevins knowledge he has acquired in his journey through the baseball world. Coach Kevin topped out at 94 in high school using a program created by one of the games brightest throwing minds Ron Wolforth, coach Kevin built his velo back after injury to the low 90’s while working at Top Velocity one of the industry’s most successful velo enhancement programs, before discovering he had a torn UCL after surgery he build his velo again to the low 90’s before another UCL tear made Coach Kevin a permanent Coach. This program takes all the knowledge amassed during that career and his 10 years of coaching since. During that coaching career Coach Kevin helped many pitchers reach over 90mph. This will be Coach Kevin’s only coaching venture as he has another career but remains passionate about staying involved in the game and this program is his baby.
